The challenge

With the Hillsdale Water Treatment Plant in Gardner, Kansas, operating at 90 percent capacity, the City of Gardner faced the pressing need to expand its water treatment capabilities. To support the community’s growing demand for clean, reliable water, the City sought a solution that would increase the plant’s capacity while maintaining efficient operations.

Challenge met

CAS Constructors, in a design-build partnership, delivered a 3 MGD expansion to the Hillsdale Water Treatment Plant, ensuring the City could meet the community’s increasing water needs. The project included the construction of critical infrastructure, such as a carbon contact building, 65-foot solids contact clarifier, filter building, transfer pump station, and a chemical feed building. Additional components included a 1 MG clearwell, two miles of raw water force main, and on-site lagoons to support long-term operations.

The design-build approach allowed for close collaboration with the City, ensuring that the project remained efficient and aligned with their goals. By expanding capacity and modernizing key systems, CAS Constructors provided the City of Gardner with the resources needed to deliver reliable, high-quality water to its residents for years to come.
