After a severe drought caused the Smoky Hill River to nearly run dry, the City of Salina, Kansas, faced an urgent need to secure a reliable water supply for its community. The city required a comprehensive solution that would not only provide a dependable source of water but also ensure long-term sustainability and resilience against future droughts.

Challenge met
Under a progressive design-build contract, CAS Constructors delivered a new 3.5 MGD water treatment plant, wellfield improvements, and system connections to provide Salina with a dependable water supply. The water treatment plant includes a high-service pump station, clearwell, filter building, and chemical building, ensuring efficient and high-quality water treatment.
The project also included rehabilitating four of the city’s wells to enhance the wellfield’s reliability and capacity. By modernizing critical infrastructure and improving water sourcing systems, CAS Constructors provided the City of Salina with a sustainable solution to meet its water needs now and in the future.
